Gold is way too easy to get compared to crafting. When it comes to survival games we all like to role play a little so having our crops growing, cooking pots sizzling, campfires burning etc just helps to add realism to the gameplay. The first option should be the more rewarding option it just needs some balancing when it comes to fertilizer timers, crop production rates etc. Having the vendors there selling everything you need is perfect but I would think it should be a last resort and perfect for emergencies.
